Guwahati, August 29, 2026 — Four more residents of Assam who were reported missing after floods and mudslides in Nepal were traced on Saturday, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said, but 10 people from the state remain unaccounted for. The number of Assam residents reported to be in Nepal rose from 12 on Friday evening to 16 on Saturday; six have now been confirmed safe.
ASDMA said contact was established on Saturday with Soneswar Narzary of Karbi Anglong and Shiva Marak, Sarbison Marak and Elipson Sangma of West Karbi Anglong. Earlier, on Friday, two Nalbari residents — Samar Bezbaruah and Pankaj Barman — were traced and found safe.
Those still missing, ASDMA listed, are Ritupurno Brahma and Montri Basumatary of Langhin in Karbi Anglong district; Shatadal Nath of Doboka in Hojai; Rahul Daimary of Golaghat; Arun Mahanta of Nalbari; Dr Dipali Sarkar, her husband Manash Kumar Ghosh, and Pankaj Naug of Guwahati; Dr Tirtha Chaliha of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital; and Birson Sangma of West Karbi Anglong.
Bezbaruah and Barman were working at the Upper Trishuli hydropower project in Rasuwa district near the Nepal–China border. ASDMA noted there has been no news so far of their colleagues Arun Mahanta and Shatadal Nath, who were also employed at the project. Authorities continue efforts to trace and contact affected people as rescue and relief operations proceed in the disaster-affected areas.
