Tura — Local officials in North Garo Hills said new development projects have been launched for Dainadubi, Kharkutta and Khenra-ona that will focus on improving road connectivity and upgrading school infrastructure to benefit residents. The initiatives, they said, are intended to bring basic services closer to communities and to stimulate local development.
According to the report, the area first received attention in 2010 when then-Lok Sabha Speaker P. A. Sangma visited and highlighted the need for development. The current push builds on work begun in 2022 and, officials said, the programmes are scheduled to progress through 2026. They listed road construction and school renovation among the priority works, which are expected to improve daily life and access to services for local families.
Officials added that health, water and other community-oriented works are also part of the package, and that a company has been engaged to carry out the contracted work. They said the projects will be implemented in phases, with particular emphasis on connecting villages, repairing and upgrading school buildings, and restoring basic facilities that have been lacking.
Speaking about the impact, a local official said the projects are intended to ease travel, boost development and create employment opportunities for residents. “These projects are crucial,” the official said. “By improving roads and connectivity, they will ease travel, spur development and create local jobs. They will also strengthen basic services and, most importantly, upgrade school facilities so students and schools benefit.” The official framed the programme as a practical response to long-standing infrastructure needs in the area.
Officials did not provide detailed timelines for each individual work but stressed that the combined efforts-building roads, renovating schools and restoring services-are aimed at delivering visible improvements to communities across North Garo Hills over the coming years.
