Guwahati: A cafe manager was assaulted and the establishment vandalised late on Monday night when a group of five to six people stormed the eatery, police said. The incident occurred in the Basistha area of the city; personnel from the Basistha police station reached the scene and launched an investigation.
“A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to nab the accused persons,” a Basistha police officer said, adding that the suspects have not yet been identified. Police said five to six youths were involved in the attack.
The manager, identified as Chanki Ahmed, was allegedly struck with bricks and chairs and sustained severe external injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
According to police, preliminary inquiries indicate the people involved knew one another and had previously taken part in a similar scuffle. Officers are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to establish identities and motives. Further investigation is ongoing.
