Assam BJP leader Mriganka Deo Barman was named a National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party on August 17, 2026, part of a wide-ranging organisational reshuffle announced by party president Nitin Nabin. The changes, announced and made effective immediately, expand the party’s central team and realign responsibilities across its national structure.
Barman is one of 16 leaders elevated to the role of National Secretary; his fellow appointees include Kavita Patidar, K. Surendran, Dr Bhola Singh, Dr Pradip Varma, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel, Dr Sandeep Pathak, Phangnon Konyak, Sangeeta Yadav, Anil Antony, Dr M Venkateshan, Manoj Tigga, Siddharth Shambhu, Dr Swadesh Singh, Rohan Gupta and Jai Prakash.
A seasoned organisational figure in Assam, Barman has served as General Secretary of BJP Assam Pradesh and previously led the BJP’s youth wing in the state as State President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Assam Pradesh. Beyond politics, he holds leadership roles in sport and youth organisations: he is Vice President of the Assam Olympic Association, a former President of the Assam Table Tennis Association and the President of the Assam Youth Forum.
Barman’s elevation gives the Assam leader a broader remit within the party’s national apparatus during a significant central restructuring. The appointments touch key functional areas of the party, including its morchas-its specialised wings and affiliated fronts-and its media and social media operations, signalling a repositioning of manpower ahead of future organisational priorities.
The reshuffle also named a large cohort of National Vice Presidents: Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi, Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, Prof M Nagaraja, Prof Tariq Mansoor and Dr Madhuchandra Kar.
In the party’s organisational hierarchy, B L Santosh was appointed National General Secretary (Organisation), with Shivprakash and Saudan Singh named National Joint General Secretaries (Organisation). Other National General Secretaries include Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Biplab Kumar Deb, Smriti Irani, Dr Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.
For the Northeast, Dr Sambit Patra has been made North-East Coordinator with Rajiv Babbar as North-East Joint Coordinator. Piyush Goyal was named National Treasurer and Rajesh Mangal National Joint Treasurer, while Tarun Chugh will serve as Central Office in-charge and Mahendra Pandey as Central Office Secretary. According to the central office release dated August 17, 2026, the appointments take effect immediately.
