Assam Floods Update: Rs 150 Crore Interim Relief, 75% Damage Assessed
Nearly Rs 150 crore has been disbursed as interim relief to flood-affected residents of Assam, and the state government says remaining eligible claims are expected to be cleared by Monday, August 17, according to its latest flood-response review. The government also reported that damage assessment is about 75% complete, with more than 1,000 surveyors deployed across affected areas to finish the rest urgently.
Officials said the survey teams are working to finalise assessments so compensation and relief can be processed without delay. The review emphasised speed in verification and disbursement to ensure households receive timely financial support.
Restoration of essential infrastructure is underway. A total of 793 schools are being repaired and readied for the resumption of classes, while damaged roads and other public facilities are being rebuilt on a priority basis to restore connectivity and services.
In Sivasagar district, high-capacity pumps have been placed to run around the clock to drain water from low-lying areas and speed up the return to normal conditions. Local administrations are coordinating pumping operations with repair teams to reopen inundated roads and public spaces.
Health authorities are scaling up medical camps across flood-hit zones and closely monitoring for any outbreaks of water-borne or other post-flood illnesses. The state has stressed preparedness and rapid response to protect vulnerable communities from disease.
The government also reviewed loan-relief measures and insurance claims, urging eligible beneficiaries to submit their claims by August 30 to enable timely processing. Officials said compensation and other benefits are being mapped to make sure assistance reaches every affected household.
Directives issued at the review instructed officials to maintain urgency in relief and restoration work, warning that delays or negligence in implementing flood-response measures will not be tolerated. The administration said it will continue monitoring the situation until recovery is complete.
