Chief Minister Leads Inspiring Pre-Independence Day Rally in Mamring
Pakyong, August 13, 2026: Chief Minister and Rhenock MLA Prem Singh Tamang-Golay attended a pre-Independence Day celebration and football semi-finals at Government Senior Secondary School, Mamring, on Thursday, part of events organised by the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC), Rhenock Constituency, marking the 80th Independence Day, an IPR release said.
Addressing the gathering, Tamang-Golay extended greetings on the pre-celebration and recalled Sikkim’s journey as the 22nd State of India, noting the state’s progress “over the past five decades” across sectors and thanking residents for their support toward Sikkim’s development. He outlined progress in Pakyong district since its formation, citing the new district hospital, the district administrative centre building and the Chief Minister’s Model School at Assam Lingzey as key achievements.
The chief minister set out proposed initiatives to improve urban amenities, healthcare, tourism infrastructure and road connectivity in Pakyong. He highlighted government assistance for patients in need and urged elected and public representatives to coordinate efforts to make Pakyong a model district, stressing unity and collective responsibility.
Tamang-Golay announced that from 2027 the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana would be expanded to cover more than 50,000 beneficiaries. He also urged the public to join the state-level Tiranga Yatra scheduled for August 14 as part of Independence Day observances.
Earlier in the programme, school principal Radha Sharma presented the institution’s vision, summarising achievements, ongoing initiatives and priorities for future development. A felicitation ceremony followed, during which the Chief Minister was honoured by the Rhenock Tourism Development Society and IDCC 2026 for his role in promoting tourism, supporting local livelihoods and advancing community development.
Individual recognitions were given to several community servants, including Chiranjeev Bhattacharjee, commandant of the 69 Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Dhargaon Mamring; Suk Bahadur Tamang, Naik, Rorathang Police Station; and Ram Chandra Bastola, staff of Government Secondary School, Amba.
On the sports front, Real Aritar defeated Rangers-19 3-2 in the second semi-final of the 80th Independence Day Constituency-Level Open Football Tournament 2026. In the Inter-School Under-14 boys final, PM Shri Dikling Senior Secondary School beat Rorathang Senior Secondary School 4-1. The programme also featured cultural items by local students, a “SwastiBachan” by Sanskrit Pathsala Pacheykhani, a band display and tattoo drill by the 69 Battalion SSB, and a musical performance by Nepal Idol finalist Arpana Acharya. The chief minister received a ceremonial welcome from the NCC cadets of Government Senior Secondary School, Mamring. Present at the event were Education Minister Raju Basnet, Agriculture Minister Puran Gurung, district officials, former MLAs, representatives from state bodies and a large number of local residents.
