Manipur Police, working with Delhi Police, central security forces and district commandos, carried out a series of coordinated operations across the state within 24 hours that recovered an interstate stolen vehicle, seized a large consignment of codeine-based cough syrup and led to multiple arrests of alleged cadres and extortionists linked to banned outfits. The actions were carried out in several districts, including Imphal East, Churachandpur, Kakching and Thoubal.
Acting on a request from Delhi Police, a Churachandpur police team traced and recovered a stolen black Hyundai Creta bearing chassis number MALPB812TRM768626*D and engine number G4FLRV760297. The vehicle was handed over at Kangvai to a team from Uttam Nagar police station in Delhi’s Dwarka district, underscoring inter-agency cooperation to dismantle inter-state vehicle theft networks.
In a separate intelligence-led raid at Mantripukhri Bazar on Tuesday, personnel from Heingang police station and Imphal East commandos arrested three men identified as Mohammad Akilur Rahaman, 28; Aribam Iftar, 21; and Md Iqubal Khan, 44. The team seized 142 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup — 116 bottles of “Cody Late” and 26 bottles of “DelStal” — each bottle containing 100 ml.
The Mantripukhri operation also led to recovery of a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number HR 26BB 8564. Police said the seizure and vehicle recoveries were part of simultaneous actions aimed at disrupting criminal supply chains and profiteering linked to organised groups.
Targeted operations across districts resulted in further arrests. In Imphal East, police arrested Yensembam Anao Meitei, 23, an alleged active extortion cadre of the banned KCP (MFL), from Kongba Lairenpat. Wakambam Rahul Meetei alias Thenao, 27, an alleged cadre of KCP (Apunba), was apprehended from Porompat Soibam Leikai. In Kakching district, security forces arrested Sanasam Amumacha Singh alias Solomon, 46, an alleged active member of the proscribed RPF/PLA, from his residence under Waikhong police station; a juvenile suspected of extortion and linked to the banned UPPK was detained from Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai. In Thoubal district, another alleged UPPK-linked extortionist was arrested from the Khongjom area.
Police said all arrested persons and the seized items have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings. Authorities described the coordinated operations as a demonstration of growing cooperation among state, central and district forces to tackle inter-state crime, drug diversion and extortion linked to proscribed groups.
