Daylight Cash Snatching, Rash Driving Raise Safety Alarm in Pathsala
Two separate incidents in Pathsala, Bajali district, captured on CCTV in the space of a few days have raised fresh concerns about public safety and traffic enforcement. In the more recent case, motorcycle-borne snatchers allegedly stole Rs 5.40 lakh in cash from a man identified as Utpal Roy of Helona village outside an HDFC Bank branch as he was about to deposit the money. The assailants fled on a motorcycle, and Pathsala Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects.
A few days earlier, a Maruti Baleno bearing registration AS19L 7794, reportedly driven rashly and negligently along the extreme left side of the road, struck a scooty from behind. The collision tossed one rider onto the road while a second rider was dragged an estimated 15 to 20 metres; his helmet is believed to have prevented a fatal injury. The injured youth sustained multiple serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Pathsala Police have seized the Baleno as part of the probe, and the family of the injured rider has filed an FIR at Pathsala Police Station. Authorities are also investigating the snatching incident after reviewing the CCTV footage recorded outside the bank.
Both incidents, recorded on surveillance cameras, have alarmed residents who say criminal activity and traffic violations are increasingly threatening safety in the town. Locals have urged police and civic authorities to strengthen traffic enforcement, expand surveillance coverage and take strict action against offenders to restore public confidence.
