Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday commissioned the 132 kV Miao–Namsai transmission line, a nearly 41-kilometre project intended to boost electricity reliability in Changlang district and neighbouring areas, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced. The line connects Namsai, Diyun and Miao and has been developed under the centrally approved Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS).
Sharing the news on social media, Mein, who also holds the power and hydropower portfolios, called the commissioning a significant step toward a stronger, more resilient electricity network in the state. He said the new link will strengthen grid connectivity, cut dependence on long radial transmission routes and help meet rising local power demand.
Officials said the transmission line is part of a wider CSST&DS rollout in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim designed to modernise transmission and distribution systems, reduce losses and ensure reliable supply to remote and border areas. The programme, implemented by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in coordination with the state government, includes transmission lines, substations and related distribution infrastructure.
According to Mein, Arunachal Pradesh has so far commissioned 91 of the 239 components planned under the CSST&DS programme, signaling steady progress in upgrading the state’s power network. The deputy chief minister congratulated PGCIL, the state power department, district administrations, executing agencies and other stakeholders involved in completing the project.
Officials said the overall CSST&DS works are scheduled for completion by 2027 and are expected to improve power availability, operational efficiency and the integration of Arunachal Pradesh’s expanding system with the national grid. The new Miao–Namsai line is being presented as an immediate step toward those broader goals.
