The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Arunachal Pradesh, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts over the next two days.
The IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Itanagar said isolated places in East Siang, Lohit, Namsai and Longding are likely to receive heavy rain of 6–11 cm in 24 hours on Thursday and Friday, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Papum Pare has been placed on a higher alert, with the weather office predicting very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm at isolated locations during the same period. The district is expected to continue receiving intense rain on Friday and Saturday, increasing the risk of localized flooding and waterlogging.
Heavy rainfall is also forecast for Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, in addition to Lohit. The IMD warned that intense downpours, especially in Papum Pare, could trigger localized flooding, waterlogging and disruption of normal activities in vulnerable areas.
The weather department has advised residents, commuters and local authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in view of possible thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain across the affected districts over the next two days.
Arunachal Pradesh has already suffered widespread damage during the ongoing monsoon season. According to official figures, floods and landslides have claimed seven lives, left 29 people injured and affected 149,392 people across the state. Authorities and residents are urged to monitor official updates and follow local safety advisories.
