Kamrup Police Bust Cattle Smuggling Ring — 3 Arrested, 16 Seized
Kamrup Police on the night of Monday, July 27 foiled an alleged cattle smuggling attempt in Assam’s Kamrup district, seizing 16 cattle and arresting three men during a raid carried out under the Chamaria Legislative Assembly Constituency. The operation, led by Goroimari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Momin, intercepted a vehicle at Jahirpur bearing registration number AS-01 PC-9335.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police stopped and inspected the vehicle and found 16 cattle being transported without valid documentation. Officers said the lack of paperwork raised immediate suspicion of illegal movement and possible involvement in a larger smuggling ring.
The three arrested have been identified as Moinul Haque of Saru Arikati in Sonitoli, Samsul Haque of Kasaripam, and Safiul Islam of Kalgachia in Barpeta district. The seized animals are being held at Goroimari Police Station while the accused are under interrogation to establish the cattle’s origin, intended destination, and any links to organised trafficking networks.
Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing and that efforts are under way to identify additional individuals who may be part of the alleged racket. Authorities said the raid forms part of continued Kamrup Police actions to curb illegal cattle trafficking in the region.
