Itanagar Youths Back Sonam Wangchuk, Demand Crackdown on Exam Leaks
Thousands of youths staged a protest rally in Itanagar on Monday to back activist Sonam Wangchuk and demand strict action against alleged examination paper leak scams. The demonstration, organised by a local youth group, began at Akashdeep and ended at IG Park; participants carried placards and chanted slogans in support of Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike alongside members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
Organisers said the rally drew thousands and aimed to highlight growing public anger over repeated exam paper leaks. Marchers condemned the leaks as having undermined the credibility of competitive tests and eroded confidence among students and job aspirants preparing for government and professional examinations.
Protesters called for greater transparency and accountability across the examination system, immediate action against those responsible for alleged leak cases, and structural reforms to ensure free and fair testing. They also demanded stronger safeguards and oversight to prevent future breaches that compromise merit-based recruitment and higher education admissions.
The rally ended peacefully, with participants reaffirming their support for Wangchuk’s campaign and vowing to sustain pressure until concrete measures are introduced to restore the integrity of competitive examinations. Organisers said further demonstrations and public outreach would continue until authorities respond with visible reforms and prosecutions where warranted.
The protest underscores broader public concern over exam security and the ripple effects that alleged leaks have on students’ futures, employment prospects and trust in public institutions.
