Sikkim Unveils FIFA Fan Park in Gangtok for Spain-Argentina Final
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced a special Fan Park at MG Marg in Gangtok for a live, public screening of the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, scheduled for the early hours of July 20. The match is set to kick off at 12:30 a.m., and organisers will install a giant LED screen on the city’s iconic promenade to accommodate football fans.
Tamang said restaurants, bakeries and other eateries along MG Marg will be permitted to remain open until 3:30 a.m. on July 20, subject to compliance with applicable laws, safety regulations and public order requirements. He shared the details in a statement on his official Facebook page.
Authorities have been directed to make arrangements for security, traffic regulation and crowd management to ensure the event runs smoothly. The Chief Minister asked the Police Department and other concerned agencies to coordinate logistics and safety measures ahead of the screening.
The third-place playoff, to be played before the final, will decide the tournament’s bronze medallists. Organisers expect fans to gather on the promenade for a communal viewing experience and have emphasised adherence to safety protocols.
“Tamang called football a sport that brings people together,” the statement said, noting Sikkim’s long-standing football culture and urging residents to celebrate responsibly while enjoying the World Cup final at MG Marg.
