Assam Govt Empowers 21 Zubeen Kshetra Women with Rs 25,000 Aid
The Assam government on July 7 announced a one-time financial grant of Rs 25,000 each to 21 women volunteers from the greater Dimoria area in recognition of their voluntary work keeping Zubeen Kshetra clean. The assistance, approved by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was distributed by Dimoria MLA Tapan Das at a programme held at Zubeen Kshetra on Monday in the presence of the Zubeen Kshetra Monitoring Committee, local representatives and residents.
Das said the decision followed the Chief Minister’s visit to Zubeen Kshetra after he began his second term, when he praised the volunteers’ long-standing efforts and promised government support. Acting on that assurance, a list of volunteers was submitted to the Chief Minister’s office and the financial aid was subsequently sanctioned.
Describing the grant as a token of appreciation, Das said it recognises the dedication and selfless service of those who have maintained the memorial of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg since its inception. He added that the state government has also allocated land for related community needs: two bighas at Kamarkuchi for a public cremation ground and one bigha for a memorial dedicated to the Karbi community.
Das noted that the Public Works Department has begun the necessary work and reiterated the government’s commitment to developing and preserving Zubeen Kshetra as an important cultural landmark. Earlier in the event, he paid floral tributes at the memorial.
After receiving the cheques, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude and said they had never undertaken the cleanliness work expecting monetary reward; they thanked the Chief Minister for recognising and honouring their voluntary contribution. Present at the programme were committee leaders and local dignitaries including Deben Chandra Das, Arun Teron, Mridula Engjal, Shukleswar Teron, Ramen Deka and others.
