Army, Assam Police Tighten Tinsukia Security for 80th Independence Day
The Red Shield Division of Spear Corps held a security conference at Laipuli in Tinsukia district on Wednesday to finalise preparations for the 80th Independence Day celebrations, officials said. The meeting, part of an ongoing civil-military fusion initiative, aimed to strengthen inter-agency coordination and review the security framework to ensure peaceful national festivities.
Senior Army officers joined representatives of the Assam Police, including Tinsukia SSP Mayank Kumar and Dibrugarh SSP Abhijit Gurav, along with local civil administration members, intelligence officers and other law-enforcement stakeholders. Deliberations focused on intelligence sharing, coordinated preventive measures and proactive security planning to address evolving threats.
Speakers emphasised the need for seamless information flow between military and civil agencies, rapid response mechanisms and joint contingency planning for crowd management and protection of critical infrastructure. Participants reviewed responsibility matrices, communication protocols and deployment plans for sensitive locations, transport nodes and public gatherings.
The conference also discussed greater use of technological aids, such as real-time surveillance feeds and a centralised command-and-control platform, to accelerate decision-making during incidents. “In the run-up to such significant national events, timely intelligence and close coordination are crucial. Such collaborative initiatives not only bolster security but also promote mutual trust between civil agencies and the Indian Army. Our objective is to ensure that citizens can observe Independence Day with dignity and without safety concerns. We will continue to share actionable inputs and conduct joint drills where necessary,” a senior Army official said.
All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to seamless coordination and a unified approach to ensuring a safe, secure and incident-free Independence Day.
