Assam Assembly’s 26-Day Budget Session from 6 July: What to Watch
The 16th Assam Legislative Assembly will convene its Budget Session on Monday, 6 July 2026, at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur, the Assembly Secretariat has said. Summoned by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya under Article 174(1) of the Constitution, the session runs until 31 July 2026, covering 26 calendar days with 16 working days scheduled. The key highlight is the full State Budget for 2026–27, to be presented by Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on 10 July 2026.
The full-term budget replaces the interim vote-on-account cleared in February ahead of the assembly polls to meet essential expenditure. The presentation comes after the ruling NDA coalition’s decisive win in the recent elections, when the alliance secured 102 of 126 seats. The budget will set spending priorities and allocations for the coming financial year and guide government policy and programmes for 2026–27.
On the first day, 6 July 2026, the Assembly will take up Question Hour, supplementary demands for grants and obituary references. General budget debates are scheduled for 13, 14 and 15 July 2026. After a short recess for reviews by Departmentally Related Standing Committees, the House will reconvene to vote on grants and to consider the Appropriation Bill.
Private Members’ Business has been allotted for 24 July 2026 and the final sitting on 31 July 2026. The session timetable reflects a focused legislative agenda centred on the Assam Budget Session, fiscal scrutiny and committee review ahead of final appropriation.
