Meghalaya Begins Special Intensive Voter Verification from June 30
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Meghalaya’s electoral rolls will begin on June 30, 2026, with booth-level officers (BLOs) conducting a month-long, house-to-house verification across the state, election officials said. The drive, running from June 30 to July 29, will see BLOs visit households in all Assembly constituencies to update voter records and distribute self-enumeration forms.
Under the exercise, BLOs will target voters whose names appear in the 2005 electoral rolls, which the Election Commission has adopted as the baseline for this revision. Residents asked to verify their details can submit the self-enumeration forms to correct omissions, update addresses or report deaths and other changes that affect voter eligibility.
Officials say the verification is aimed at ensuring eligible voters are correctly included and that the rolls remain accurate and error-free ahead of future elections. The door-to-door format is intended to reach voters directly and reduce administrative errors that can arise from outdated or incomplete records.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal appealed to residents to cooperate with the verification teams, stressing the exercise’s inclusive aim. “The objective is to include, not exclude eligible voters,” he said, urging people to assist BLOs and complete the self-enumeration forms when visited.
The month-long campaign forms part of the Election Commission’s wider efforts to maintain updated electoral rolls. Voters are encouraged to cooperate with BLOs during the visit window of June 30–July 29, 2026, to help ensure accurate registration ahead of upcoming polls.
