Naga Youth: Final Political Solution in 3 Months or Civil Disobedience
A Naga youth organisation on Saturday, June 27 demanded that the Centre implement a final political settlement on the long‑pending Naga issue within three months, warning that failure to do so would trigger a civil disobedience and non‑cooperation movement. The demand was raised at a rally in Dimapur organised under the banner of the “Naga Youth Movement” and themed “Hear the Youth, Honour the Truth.”
In a memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the youth group Fed up Nagas said years of negotiations have failed to produce a conclusive outcome and urged immediate action to conclude the process. The memorandum framed the three‑month ultimatum as a last opportunity before the proposed mass protest measures would be activated.
The organisation noted that 11 years have passed since the signing of the Framework Agreement and nine years since the Agreed Position, yet a final settlement remains pending. It said the prolonged delay has fuelled lawlessness, intimidation, extortion, corruption and growing distrust, contributing to widening social disunity across Naga society.
Addressing the rally, N Kitovi Zhimomi, convenor of the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC‑NNPG), said the youth‑led mobilisation had revived public attention on the unresolved political issue. Zhimomi admitted he was initially sceptical about the movement’s longevity, given past civil‑society efforts that faded, but said he was persuaded by the organisers’ commitment and determination.
Zhimomi praised the youth initiative as reflecting a generation’s aspiration for peace, progress and greater certainty. The rally underscored mounting calls from sections of Naga civil society for renewed engagement and a timely resolution to the political process.
