Ajit Doval Urgently Reviews West Asia Crisis with Iranian Counterpart
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held separate talks on Monday with senior officials from Iran and Ethiopia on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors’ Meeting in New Delhi, focusing on regional security developments and ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
In a meeting with Ghadir Nezamipour, Deputy Secretary for Defence Affairs of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Doval reviewed the evolving situation in West Asia and discussed potential avenues for cooperation within the BRICS framework, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The two sides exchanged views on India‑Iran bilateral relations and other issues of mutual strategic interest, with discussions covering recent regional developments and efforts to enhance engagement through multilateral platforms such as BRICS, according to the MEA.
Doval also met Million Lema Tadesse, Executive Director of Analysis at Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service, in a separate engagement that centered on expanding cooperation and exploring opportunities to strengthen the India‑Ethiopia Strategic Partnership.
Both meetings, the MEA said, reviewed areas where collaboration could be enhanced to deepen bilateral ties and advance shared strategic objectives between India and the respective partners.
The interactions took place during the two‑day BRICS National Security Advisors’ Meeting hosted by India under its chairmanship, which has drawn top security officials from member nations to deliberate on emerging global and regional security concerns.
A central theme of the gathering is “Non‑traditional security challenges confronting the world today,” with delegates exchanging perspectives on a range of evolving threats, including those linked to rapid technological change and shifting security dynamics.
Participants are also assessing outcomes from recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on Counter‑Terrorism and on Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies, with an emphasis on strengthening cooperation among member states.
Officials said the meeting provides an important platform for BRICS members to coordinate responses to emerging risks and reinforce collaboration on strategic and security‑related issues, underscoring the role of multilateral dialogue in addressing contemporary security challenges.
