Nation’s Civilisational Wisdom Lauded by Arunachal Governor — Guwahati
Arunachal Pradesh observed the International Day of Yoga across the state on Sunday, with government leaders, security forces, students and citizens taking part in coordinated sessions in Itanagar and Jang. Governor K.T. Parnaik, Health Minister Biyuram Wahge and Chief Minister Pema Khandu were among the dignitaries who joined the events, which aimed to promote wellness and preventive healthcare through yoga.
At Lok Bhavan in Itanagar, Governor Parnaik and Minister Wahge led a public session. Parnaik described the International Day of Yoga as “a global recognition of India’s civilisational wisdom” and said yoga, now practiced worldwide, provides “a simple, affordable and sustainable tool for preventive healthcare.” The governor’s remarks framed the observance as both cultural affirmation and a public-health measure.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu participated in celebrations at Jang alongside schoolchildren, Army units, Central Armed Police Forces and Border Roads Organisation personnel, with many local residents joining. Large contingents from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Arunachal Pradesh Police, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, and officials from Lok Bhavan and the state health department performed a series of asanas following the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH.
Organisers said the statewide turnout highlighted renewed focus on preventive health and community participation. By observing the standardized protocol, authorities sought to ensure accessible, safe practice and to reinforce yoga’s role in public wellness programs.
