VIT Secures 597th Spot in QS World University Rankings 2027
VIT University has climbed to 597th place in the QS World University Rankings 2027, the university said in a press release dated June 10 from Vellore, marking a jump of 94 positions from its 691st place in the 2026 list. The rise reflects a notable improvement in VIT’s overall global standing among more than 1,500 institutions evaluated by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.
The QS rankings assess universities across five core indicators: Research and Discovery, Learning Experience, Employability, International Engagement and Sustainability. QS released its latest World University Rankings for 2027 after analysing institutional performance across these categories.
Commenting on the result, VIT Chancellor Dr G. Viswanathan said, “In an intensely competitive global environment, VIT University’s significant improvement in the QS World University Rankings is a matter of great pride.” He added that the university has shown strength in sustainability and subject-level engineering metrics. According to the release, VIT placed 352nd worldwide and seventh in India for Sustainability in the 2026 rankings, and in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 it ranked 119th globally and sixth among Indian institutions for Engineering and Technology. “Through innovation in teaching and groundbreaking advancements in research, VIT aims to break into the top 200 universities worldwide,” he said.
The jump in QS ranking may bolster VIT’s visibility to prospective students, faculty and research partners and reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen teaching, research output and international engagement.
