The honourees received certificates, mementoes and cash incentives amounting to Rs 5 lakh as part of an effort to encourage academic excellence across the state.
The recognition ceremony drew students, parents, educators and dignitaries who gathered to celebrate the achievements and to spotlight pathways to higher education and professional success. Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Revati Mohite Dere, attended as the chief guest, and the event was also graced by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syem, Meghalaya Lokayukta Chairman C.P. Marak, along with several educationists and academicians.
Addressing the audience, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque announced a series of measures to support meritorious students from Meghalaya. He said MBOSE board toppers would be granted free admission to USTM’s four-year Bachelor of Arts in Administration and Governance (BAAG) programme under the USTM IAS Academy, a course designed to combine undergraduate study with focused coaching, mentorship and preparation for the UPSC and other competitive examinations.
Hoque also highlighted USTM’s Payback Policy, under which students who clear prestigious competitive exams or reach significant professional milestones become eligible for fee reimbursements and additional incentives. He noted that an increasing number of students from Meghalaya have benefited from the scheme, reflecting rising success at the national level.
In addition to the BAAG admissions and the Payback Policy, the Chancellor outlined new scholarship and financial assistance programmes aimed at deserving students, stressing that financial constraints should not prevent talented youth from accessing quality higher education.
Justice Revati Mohite Dere congratulated the toppers and urged them to pursue their ambitions with dedication, honesty and a strong sense of social responsibility. Organisers said the felicitation underlined the importance of recognising scholastic achievement while inspiring the next generation to aim for leadership and meaningful contribution to society.
