Pranit More on Rs 370 Ki Biryani Controversy: ‘I Deserve This Hate’
Stand-up comedian Pranit More issued a second public apology on Saturday, June 13, 2026, after comments at a Gurugram show — widely dubbed the “Rs 370 biryani” incident — sparked heavy criticism and a cyber police complaint alleging dissemination of “obscene and objectionable” content. More, whose social media account had been deactivated days earlier, asked for a second chance and acknowledged his role in the episode.
The controversy began during a live crowd-interaction segment when attendee Himanshu Jangra, identified as a web developer, said he paid Rs 370 for a plate of chicken biryani and later sought sexual favours from a woman in return. More was seen laughing at the remark on stage. Both More and Jangra later apologised, but public outrage focused more sharply on the comedian for not stopping the comment as it was made.
In his Saturday apology, More said, “I deserve this hate. That man said many derogatory things, but everyone was laughing so I also got carried away. This was a big mistake. I could have stopped him then and there and taken a stand. I gave him a platform and that escalated matters so fast. I want to apologise to all those who got hurt.” He said he would work to become a better person and reflected on the lapse in judgment represented by his failure to object.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned More and Jangra, saying their remarks appeared to glorify sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct toward a woman. Jangra was reportedly sacked by his employer after the controversy. Meanwhile, a separate clip from More’s show showed an MBBS student, Sejal Pawar, making derogatory comments about medical cadavers and male bodies used for teaching; authorities described those remarks as disrespectful to the dignity of the dead, and she has apologised.
In Mumbai, civic-run KEM Hospital set up a two-member committee to probe the cadaver-related comments. Hospital dean Dr. Harish M. Pathak called the statements unacceptable, and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde warned that vulgarity and hateful remarks in the name of entertainment would not be tolerated. Tawde urged artists, digital creators and influencers to exercise social responsibility and maintain ethical standards while producing content.
Maharashtra Chief Minister and home minister Devendra Fadnavis commented that comedians should be mindful that freedom of expression must not violate another person’s right to dignity. “Everyone has the right to freedom of expression… But freedom of expression should not become a licence. No one should violate the dignity of others,” he said.
