Manipur Saikul MLA Condemns Shocking Killing of Two Church Leaders
Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing on Friday condemned the killing of two community and church leaders in Kultuh village, Ukhrul district, Manipur, calling the early‑morning attack a brutal act that has heightened fears over security in the state’s hill areas. Armed militants allegedly shot dead Letminlun Haokip, 34, and Lunminthang Haokip, 36, in the incident, which has prompted widespread outrage among residents and civil society groups.
According to the MLA, Letminlun served as Gambih Secretary of KBC No. 17 and was the head deacon of Kultuh Baptist Church, while Lunminthang was Gambih Youth Secretary of KBC No. 17 and youth chairman of the church. Hangshing said both men were widely respected for their service to the church and for their contributions to community welfare.
Hangshing described the killings as not only an attack on two individuals but also on the values of peace, faith and communal harmony, calling the violence senseless and unacceptable in a civilised society. She expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Kultuh village, and warned that such attacks undermine efforts to preserve peace and coexistence in the region.
The MLA urged authorities to carry out a thorough and swift investigation, identify those responsible and ensure justice is delivered without delay. She also called for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable civilian populations in the hill areas.
The killings have drawn strong reactions from community organisations and civil society groups, which are demanding decisive action against those allegedly involved. Hangshing appealed for unity across all sections of society and urged people to reject violence while reaffirming a collective commitment to peace, justice and the protection of human life.
