Illegal Parking Sparks Road Accident Near GB Hospital, Agartala
Agartala, 7 June 2026 — Four people were injured, one critically, when a passenger-loaded tomtom collided with a stationary Bolero near Kunjan Fire Station adjacent to GB Pant Hospital, authorities said. Police say the crash was caused after the Bolero was allegedly left parked on the roadside, reviving local concerns about illegal parking and traffic management in the city.
According to eyewitnesses and officials at the scene, the Bolero (registration TR01 CF 0767) had been left at the roadside while its driver went to a nearby shop for photocopying. During that time a tomtom (registration TR01 M 2144) carrying passengers struck the parked vehicle from behind, causing multiple injuries.
Fire service personnel who were present at the spot immediately assisted the victims and moved them to GB Pant Hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Sushil Das, Johnson Debbarma and Rajib Barman, along with one female passenger whose identity is yet to be confirmed. Hospital sources described one woman as being in critical condition; all remain under medical care.
The driver of the tomtom, who also sustained injuries, told police he lost control of the vehicle after another car suddenly overtook him, forcing him into the parked Bolero. Police have taken both vehicles into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Residents in the area voiced frustration over what they described as a growing problem of illegal roadside parking and inconsistent traffic enforcement, which they say heightens the risk of accidents on busy stretches. Authorities have not yet announced any enforcement actions or safety measures following the incident; investigations are continuing.
