Naga Body to March from Ukhrul to Imphal, Demanding Justice for Six
Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) announced a march from Ukhrul to Imphal along National Highway‑202 on June 4 to protest the alleged abduction of six Naga men on May 13, 2026. The men are reported to have been taken from Leilon Vaiphei village by cadres of the KNF (P), the association said.
The decision followed an emergency assembly at the Ukhrul district headquarters on Wednesday, held after an ultimatum to the state government and the Centre seeking information on the hostages expired. The gathering was hosted by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and focused on the situation in Naga‑inhabited areas.
In a statement, ANSAM said the assembly noted with “profound disappointment” that, despite the deadline lapse, no concrete information about the safety, whereabouts or status of the six had been made available to their families or the Naga community. The association added that the prolonged silence and lack of visible progress had deepened anxiety among the victims’ relatives and the wider Naga population.
The assembly reaffirmed an earlier emergency presidential council decision demanding that the state government and the Centre ascertain the condition and location of the men and facilitate their safe return. As part of its agitation programme, ANSAM said marchers will also stop at Makhan village to meet the families during the Ukhrul–Imphal procession.
ANSAM warned that any untoward incident during the democratic march along the Imphal–Ukhrul road would be the sole responsibility of the state and central governments. The house also discussed greater inclusiveness within the Naga community amid the crisis and said the presidential council’s call to boycott the state government requires broader consultation for effective implementation.
To that end, the assembly empowered the ANSAM Executive Council and its units to hold intensive consultations with stakeholders and resolved to form an action committee, to be constituted by the Executive Council and include former ANSAM leaders. Reiterating its commitment to peaceful protest, ANSAM vowed to continue its agitation “until justice is delivered and the six abducted men are reunited with their families,” adding that “the suffering of the families of the hostages cannot be ignored.”
