Breaking: Two RPF/PLA Cadres Arrested in Imphal East for Extortion
Security forces on Monday, June 1 arrested two alleged active cadres of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) in separate operations in Imphal East district, officials said. The arrests were made on charges of alleged extortion and are part of an ongoing investigation into criminal networks in the area.
The first suspect, identified by authorities as Maibam Arun Singh, also known as Uru, 49, and a resident of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai near the Community Hall, was detained from Top Awang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station. Officials said he is an active cadre of the RPF/PLA and is accused of involvement in extortion-related activities.
In a separate operation, security personnel arrested 30-year-old Thangjam Surankumar Singh, known variously as Achouba and Rajesh, a resident of Pourabi Awang Leikai. He was taken into custody from Top Makha Leikai, which also falls under Porompat Police Station. Authorities allege he is an active RPF/PLA member engaged in similar extortion activity.
Police and security agencies are conducting further inquiries to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement in unlawful activities and to identify any associates or networks operating in Imphal East. No charges have been filed publicly yet; officials described the suspects’ roles as alleged and said investigations are continuing.
