Assam Congress: APCC Revokes Suspension, Nilamani Sen Deka Reinstated
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has revoked the suspension of senior Congress leader Nilamani Sen Deka, a former minister and ex-MLA from the Dharmapur constituency, the party announced on Friday. Deka had been suspended in 2022 over allegations of anti-party activities, according to the party statement.
APCC president Gaurav Gogoi communicated the decision in an official letter, and party sources said the veteran leader will be formally welcomed back into the party fold in the coming days. Deka is widely regarded within the state as a prominent Congress figure with a longstanding role in Dharmapur’s political landscape.
Reacting to the move, Nilamani Sen Deka struck a measured tone, saying he had “neither any special happiness nor disappointment” about the party’s decision. The remark reflects a restrained response to his reinstatement.
The revocation closes a dispute that has kept Deka at odds with the party since 2022 and signals the APCC’s willingness to restore veteran leaders as it manages internal alignments. The party has not provided additional details on any conditions attached to the revocation or on the timing of Deka’s formal return.
