Mother Files FIR Against Fake Academy After Son’s Arrest in Dhubri
A major education fraud case has surfaced in Assam’s Dhubri district after a student was arrested on suspicion of submitting a fake HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) that his family says was issued by an unauthorised institution operating openly in the area. The matter came to light on April 29, 2026, when school officials flagged irregularities in the document while processing the student’s admission into higher secondary classes.
A formal FIR was lodged at Dhubri Police Station by Pratima Ghosh of Khalilpur (Nathpara), who has sought criminal action against those allegedly involved in running the institution and issuing forged educational documents. Police registered the case as Dhubri PS Case No. 142/2026 and subsequently arrested the student named in the complaint.
According to the FIR, Pratima’s son, Sagar Ghosh, enrolled at an institution called English Education Academy, which is also reportedly operating under the name English School Academy at Jhagrarpar Part-III in Dhubri. The family says the academy promoted itself through social media advertisements, banners and online content, creating the impression that it was authorised to conduct examinations and issue valid certificates.
The complaint alleges that, acting on assurances from academy owner Zahidul Hussain, Sagar attended classes, sat for examinations and later received what was presented to them as an HSLC passing certificate. School authorities at Bidyapara Boys Higher Secondary School, however, detected irregularities in the certificate and informed the police after suspecting forgery.
In her FIR, Pratima maintained that her son was unaware the certificate might be fake and that the family had acted in good faith. “My son and our family acted in complete good faith. He is a victim of a dishonest and fraudulent trap, yet he is the one facing public humiliation, mental trauma and legal action,” she stated in the complaint.
The FIR also accuses education authorities and local monitoring agencies of negligence, alleging that the fake academy had been operating openly for nearly two years without verification or enforcement action. The complainant has demanded a detailed probe into the academy’s activities, its owner and any associates.
Pratima has urged authorities to invoke stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and the use of forged documents. The incident has prompted widespread concern in Dhubri, with local residents calling for strict action against those allegedly running fake educational institutions and misleading students.
