কেন্দ্ৰীয় চৰকাৰৰ বৃহৎ প্ৰস্তাৱ: JEE আৰু NEET একীভূত প্ৰৱেশ পৰীক্ষা
The central government is examining a proposal to hold a single, unified national entrance examination for undergraduate admissions in engineering and medical sciences, officials told a parliamentary committee after the question-paper leak in the recently held NEET‑UG 2026. Government sources say the idea is under active consideration as part of a broader effort to curb recurring exam irregularities and restore public confidence in high-stakes admissions tests.
The discussions stem from recommendations made by a high-level committee set up after the irregularities in the 2024 NEET‑UG exam. That committee, chaired by former ISRO chief Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, prepared a roadmap to overhaul examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Among its proposals was the creation of a single, integrated testing system for undergraduate admissions across disciplines.
Under the proposed model, major national tests such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET‑UG) for medicine would operate within a common framework. The unified exam would include separate subject-specific sections so candidates from different streams could be assessed appropriately, allowing engineering and medical admission processes to be coordinated under one structure while preserving discipline-specific evaluation.
Officials briefed the parliamentary panel on the proposal but emphasized that the plan is still under review and would require legislative and administrative decisions before any change is implemented. If adopted, the unified system aims to simplify the admissions landscape and reduce opportunities for malpractice by consolidating testing architecture and oversight.
