Breaking: Two Bihar Snatchers Arrested in Bishalgarh
Agartala, 20 May 2026 — Police arrested two youths from Bihar on Wednesday accused of snatching gold ornaments from women within the Srinagar police station limits, in an incident that residents say underscores rising insecurity and the vulnerability of women even inside their homes.
According to police, the suspects entered the home of an elderly woman, Radha Rani Debbarma, in the Taylorbon area of ADC Village on the afternoon of 20 May 2026, posing as people there to clean utensils. With male family members absent, the duo allegedly grabbed a gold chain from her neck and fled.
Neighbors who heard the victim’s cries alerted people at nearby Kanchanmala market, and locals quickly mobilised to intercept the pair. The suspects attempted to speed through the market on a motorcycle bearing registration number BR39AE-8350 but were caught by vigilant residents, who recovered the stolen chain and handed the men over to Amtali Police.
The victim’s son, Parimal Debbarma, filed a formal complaint, after which police identified the arrested men as Pawan Kumar and Nitish Kumar, both residents of Katihar district in Bihar. Police sources said the two are suspected of carrying out similar thefts in Amtali’s Baroitila and Shibbari areas in recent days, using the same modus operandi.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of law, and the accused are scheduled to be produced before the court on 21 May 2026. Police said investigations are ongoing.
