Tripura Arrest: Creator Allegedly Raped Woman After iPhone Promise
A Tripura man identified as mobile phone shop owner and social media content creator Aditya Das was arrested late Saturday night by officers from Amtali Police Station after a complaint was filed at the West Agartala Women’s Police Station alleging he raped a young woman from Dhalai district, police said.
Officer in charge of Amtali Police Station Paritosh Das said the arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim. According to the complaint and police, the accused first made contact with the woman on Facebook about three months ago and their conversations “gradually developed into regular communication.” The OC said the accused allegedly lured her with a promise of gifting an expensive iPhone and arranged to meet her under that pretext.
The victim, the OC said, traveled by train to Agartala on Saturday morning. Upon arriving at the railway station she was reportedly met by the accused, who came on a motorcycle. He told her he would take her elsewhere but instead brought her to a three‑storey hotel near the station, the complaint states. “Inside the hotel, the woman was forcibly raped. When she resisted, she was allegedly assaulted,” Paritosh Das said, citing the victim’s account.
Police launched an investigation after the complaint and detained the man at the scene; he was later formally arrested around midnight, the OC added.
Police sources said the accused is a resident of the Kamalpur area in Dhalai district and operates two mobile phone shops in Agartala near Siddhi Ashram and Laxminarayan Bari. He is reportedly married and had been living in the Gangail Road area of Agartala. The allegations are subject to investigation and the accused remains in custody pending further legal action.
