A BAMS student has been arrested in Nashik, Maharashtra, in connection with the alleged leak of the UGC NET (UG) question paper. Police sources say the accused, identified as Shubham Khairnar, allegedly purchased the leaked question paper over the Telegram app for Rs 10 lakh and subsequently sold the same paper to another person in Haryana.

Nashik crime branch officers carried out the arrest after receiving information about the transaction and the chain of distribution. Authorities say the case has provoked nationwide attention because it involves a high-stakes national eligibility test and a sizable monetary exchange tied to the purported leak.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the paper leak. A four-member CBI team is reported to have arrived in Nashik to take Khairnar into custody for further questioning and to continue the investigation into how the paper was leaked and circulated.

The arrest underscores growing concerns about exam security and the misuse of messaging platforms to trade sensitive material. Officials have not released details beyond the arrest; investigations by the CBI and local police are ongoing, and further action will depend on their findings.
