PM Modi Hails BJP’s Triumphant Hat-trick in Assam — Explained
New Delhi/Guwahati, May 4: Early trends in the Assembly vote count on Monday show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) crossing the halfway mark with 64 seats in Assam, positioning it to become the single-largest party in the state legislature as counting continues.
Speaking to party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the emerging outcome as a vote of confidence in the government’s ability to deliver. He said high voter turnout across several states, including Assam, underlined the strength of India’s democratic processes. “Our constitutional institutions have won, our democratic processes have won. In Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, new turnout records have been made,” he said.
Modi invoked cultural symbols tied to Assam to explain the party’s performance there, saying, “With Ganga ji, we have also been blessed by Brahmaputra and Ma Kamakhya. Because of this, we have scored a hattrick in Assam.” He also posted on social media, declaring, “Assam blesses BJP-NDA once again!” and thanking voters for their support.
Outlining the government’s next priorities, the prime minister said the focus would be on women’s safety, employment for youth and curbing illegal infiltration. “Women will get an atmosphere of security, the youth will get employment, migration will stop. In the first cabinet, the Ayushman Bharat yojana will get approval. The strictest action will also be taken against infiltrators,” he said.
Modi used the post-result remarks to attack opposition parties over the stalled Women’s Reservation Bill, asserting that women voters had punished those who opposed the legislation. “Nari Shakti is another pillar of Viksit Bharat. But the Congress tried to stop it… these parties did not let the Nari Shakti Adhiniyam pass in Parliament. I had cautioned such parties they will have to face the ire of women. Today, the Congress party, TMC and DMK have been punished by the women of this country,” he said.
Framing Assam as central to the BJP’s wider political momentum, Modi described the trends as a public endorsement of stability and performance-based governance. “This is a day of trust. Trust in India’s great democracy. Trust in the politics of performance… Trust in the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’,” he added.
