Mizoram CM Seeks Tourism Growth, Marks Peace Milestone at NITI Aayog
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul on May 4 in Mizoram to discuss the state’s development priorities and new avenues for cooperation with the central think-tank. The talks focused on boosting horticulture and tourism, attracting investment, and expanding skills training, with both leaders outlining concrete support measures to accelerate growth.
Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s recent gains in horticulture and said the state’s designation as the “Ginger Capital of India” has translated into tangible economic benefits for farmers and local businesses. He also pointed to broader achievements — Mizoram’s claim as India’s first fully literate state, its reputation among the cleanest and least corrupt, a growing tourism sector, and sustained peace — as foundations for further development. “We recently sealed a peace agreement with the last remaining armed group,” he said, noting the security win as central to enabling investment and tourism.
Dr V K Paul praised Mizoram’s coordination with NITI Aayog and lauded Lalduhoma’s leadership, describing the partnership as a model other states could study. NITI Aayog officials outlined support measures including a strengthened tourism policy, efforts to attract investors, and capacity-building through the Institute of Hotel Management, Ashok, which will offer free training to boost the hospitality workforce.
Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, who attended the meeting, discussed joint initiatives such as an upcoming Tourism Conclave intended to showcase Mizoram’s offerings to investors and tour operators. Officials confirmed a pre-conclave meeting will be held in New Delhi later this month to finalize plans and partnerships.
Both sides said they will continue working together to convert Mizoram’s social achievements and natural assets into sustainable economic growth, with tourism and horticulture as immediate focus areas.
