Assam Elections: BJP Surges in Upper Assam; Congress Holds Key Seats
Early trends from vote counting across Assam show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with a strong showing-especially in Upper Assam-while the Indian National Congress has opened leads in a few key constituencies. Counting is under way and the figures reported so far reflect preliminary leads rather than final results.
In Dibrugarh district, BJP’s Bimal Borah leads Tingkhong by 4,185 votes against Bipul Gogoi. The BJP is also ahead in Naharkatia, where Taranga Gogoi leads by 4,037 votes, and in the Dibrugarh seat, where Prasanta Phukan holds a lead of 2,752 votes.
Jitendra Nath Goswami of the BJP is leading Jorhat by 1,056 votes. Ranoj Pegu has taken an early lead in Dhemaji. In Tinsukia, Pulok Gohain leads by 1,280 votes, while Jiban Gogoi is ahead in Sissibargaon by 1,734 votes. In Biswanath, Pallab Lochan Das holds a margin of 1,441 votes.
Senior BJP leader Pijush Hazarika has opened a substantial lead in Jagiroad, with a margin of 5,300 votes. Bikram Chandra Deka leads Tangla by 2,450 votes, and Ajanta Neog is ahead in Golaghat by 976 votes.
The Congress has made gains in select seats: Rujumoni Talukdar leads Mangaldai by 6,107 votes, and Jakir Hussain Sikdar is ahead in Pakabetbari by 5,804 votes. These early leads indicate pockets of Congress strength amid broader BJP advances.
All figures are provisional and part of the ongoing counting process; margins may change as more rounds are tallied and results are officially declared.
