Arunachal Governor Honours Manami Gamlin with ‘Rising Sun’ Medallion
Itanagar — Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik honoured young dancer Manami Moyir Gamlin with the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ medallion for excellence at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on Friday, recognising her dedication and achievements in Indian classical dance.
A student of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nirjuli, Manami has shown remarkable talent and expressive range across multiple classical forms. She is trained in Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi, and has also explored folk styles such as Lavani. Her performances at cultural events, including programmes staged at Lok Bhavan, have won wide appreciation.
Praising her discipline and artistic skill, the Governor said Manami’s journey reflects the immense potential among Arunachal Pradesh’s youth. He emphasised that dedication and proper guidance can help young artists attain excellence while contributing to the preservation of India’s cultural heritage, and expressed hope that her success will inspire more youngsters in the state to take an interest in classical arts.
Manami is currently pursuing her Visarad in Kathak at Nrityangan Dance and Music Academy, deepening her formal training. In addition to classical repertoire, she has learned and performed various folk dances from across Arunachal Pradesh, underscoring her versatility as a performer.
Her talent has opened opportunities on major stages: she has performed at national and international events including the G20 Summit, the C20 Summit and centenary celebrations in Dharamshala. Observers say her recognition at Lok Bhavan highlights both individual achievement and the growing visibility of northeastern artists on larger cultural platforms.
