৪০ ঘণ্টা হৃদস্পন্দন বন্ধ: অবিশ্বাস্যভাৱে পুনৰ জীৱন পোৱা ব্যক্তি
A medical team in eastern China says a man in his late 30s or around 40 has made a full recovery after his heart failed to beat on its own for roughly 40 hours, then restarted and he was discharged walking home. Doctors describe the case as an extraordinary and rare recovery in modern medicine.
According to the report, the patient was admitted after developing chest discomfort, pain and difficulty breathing. Soon after arrival his condition deteriorated into cardiac arrest — his heart stopped pumping and breathing was nearly absent. Medical staff immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used a defibrillator, but repeated attempts did not restore a sustained heartbeat.
Faced with a persistent circulatory collapse, clinicians placed the patient on an advanced life‑support system known as ECMO — extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. ECMO is a machine that takes over the work of the heart and lungs by removing blood from the body, adding oxygen and removing carbon dioxide, then returning it to the circulation. This allows the patient’s organs to be perfused while the heart and lungs are given time to recover.
For about 40 hours the patient’s heart remained nonfunctional and continued circulation depended on the ECMO support. Because prolonged loss of blood flow can cause permanent brain, kidney and other organ damage, the outlook was initially guarded. Gradually, however, the man’s heart resumed beating on its own. After the return of spontaneous circulation, doctors kept him on ECMO for an additional 10 days to stabilize his condition.
Medical staff report that the patient regained full consciousness, showed no detectable brain injury, and was able to speak normally before being discharged. Doctors credited modern life‑support technology and the dedicated efforts of the treatment team for enabling what they called a near‑miraculous recovery.
