Guwahati Bar Licence Suspended After Narengi Crash Killing Three
Guwahati, April 30 — The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has suspended the IMFL ‘ON’ licence of D Tipsy Gaon (EXORO), a bar-cum-restaurant at Roodraksh Mall on GS Road in Bhangagarh, after the outlet was linked to a fatal road accident that claimed three lives. The suspension takes effect immediately and will remain until further orders.
Official records say the establishment was authorised to serve alcohol only until 12:30 am. A report from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, states that four people who were later involved in the April 26 crash at Mathgharia near Gate Hospital had visited the restaurant, consumed alcohol and left the premises at around 3:00 am.
Acting on the DCP (Traffic) report, the Excise department sought clarification from the Superintendent of Excise, Kamrup (Metro). A follow-up inquiry found the premises had been operating beyond permitted hours, in breach of Rule 127(1) of the Assam Excise Rules, 2016, and the licence conditions.
“In view of the above and considering the seriousness of the matter, the undersigned, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 30 of the Assam Excise Act, 2000, hereby suspends the IMFL ‘ON’ licence of D Tipsy Gaon (EXORO) with immediate effect, until further orders,” the official order said.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation. The Superintendent of Excise, Kamrup (Metro), has been directed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and submit a report within 15 days. The probe will determine any further regulatory or legal action.
