Manipur Deputy CM’s Powerful Call for a Drug-Free Chandmari Jubilee
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen on April 28, 2026, urged Chandmari village residents to unite in building a drug-free and healthy community as she attended the village’s 75th anniversary Platinum Jubilee in Kangpokpi district. The celebration, organised by the Chandmari Village Authority and its Jubilee Committee, marked the village’s founding years (1951–2026) and highlighted its legacy, unity and development.
Kipgen, the event’s chief guest, unveiled a Jubilee monolith and released commemorative balloons. Thangkhoklen Kipgen, Chief of Khokheng, unveiled a foundation stone plaque while Rev. J. Lunkim dedicated the newly erected structures. As a cultural tribute, village chiefs, elders and church leaders struck the traditional Dahpi (gong) 75 times to symbolise the community’s seven-and-a-half-decade journey.
Addressing the gathering, Nemcha Kipgen congratulated the people of Chandmari and described the milestone as evidence of the village’s resilience and progress. She warned that drug abuse posed a growing threat and appealed to local institutions — village chiefs, women’s groups and youth bodies — to take collective responsibility. “The fight against drugs cannot be left to the government alone. Community participation is essential,” she said, calling for vigilance, awareness and social responsibility.
Kipgen stressed that a drug-free society is vital for the safety and future of younger generations and urged residents to use the Jubilee year as a turning point for sustained community action against substance abuse. Her remarks framed the celebration as both a commemoration and a moment for renewed social commitment.
In a separate session at the church hall, Pastor Ngullet Khongsai released a commemorative souvenir documenting Chandmari’s history and achievements. The Chandmari Village Authority also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister seeking government support to upgrade the local primary school, improve road infrastructure and construct a community hall.
The Platinum Jubilee concluded with a community feast attended by villagers and dignitaries, underscoring local solidarity as leaders and residents looked ahead to development and social initiatives.
