Devil Wears Prada 2 Director Finally Addresses Adrian Grenier Cameo
David Frankel, director of The Devil Wears Prada 2, revealed he briefly tried to include Nate-Adrian Grenier’s character from the original film-in the sequel, saying he considered “sneaking” Grenier in for a surprise cameo, according to Deadline. Frankel told reporters the idea ultimately fell through because “it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.”
The director declined to detail how Nate might have been written into the new story that reunites Anne Hathaway with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, but confirmed the attempt reflected a desire to nod to the original film’s unresolved threads. Frankel framed the notion as a playful, last-minute possibility rather than a planned plot point.
He also praised Grenier’s recent work outside the franchise, saying, “I’m thrilled that he (Adrian Grenier) did a Starbucks commercial, which was really funny and so self-effacing. I love the humility and the comedy of it.” The remark underlines Frankel’s appreciation for Grenier’s willingness to take on self-parody roles even as fans speculate about his character’s return.
Over the years, social media conversations have kept Nate’s relationship with Andy Barnes in the spotlight, with some fans criticizing his behavior in the first film for appearing unsupportive of Andy’s career in fashion. That original film left the couple’s relationship status unresolved, making any potential cameo a point of interest for longtime viewers. (PTI; reports Deadline)
