Breaking: NSCN (IM) Rebel Surrenders in Arunachal’s Tirap
A hardcore insurgent of the NSCN (IM), identified as self-styled lieutenant Thinwang Deosa, 60, surrendered to security forces in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday after a focused operation by the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles based on credible intelligence, the force said on Sunday. The surrender took place in the Sanliam area and the Assam Rifles disclosed the details two days later.
According to the Assam Rifles, personnel acted on specific intelligence about Deosa’s presence, moved to the location, activated local sources and established contact with him. Through sustained persuasion and negotiation, troops convinced Deosa to lay down his arms peacefully and there were no reported incidents during the surrender.
Deosa was taken into custody and brought to the Company Operating Base in Lazu for processing and further investigation. The Assam Rifles said the surrender was the outcome of continued operational pressure combined with deliberate engagement efforts aimed at persuading militants to abandon violence and return to the mainstream.
The development underscores ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Arunachal Pradesh and follows other recent surrenders linked to the NSCN (IM) in Tirap district. The Assam Rifles framed the outcome as part of a broader strategy of targeted intelligence-led operations and sustained outreach to reduce insurgent activity and restore stability in the region.
