
Veteran Assamese Journalist Nitya Bora Dies at 83 — Nation Mourns
Veteran journalist Nitya Bora, 83, died in Jorhat on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, following a prolonged illness, family members said. He had been unwell for several months after suffering a cardiac arrest about six months earlier.
Bora is survived by his daughter; his wife predeceased him. He was admitted to a hospital in Jorhat last week and had been staying with his daughter and her family during his illness.
A former editor of the Assamese daily Asomiya Pratidin, Bora was a well-known figure in regional journalism. Colleagues and media bodies remembered his long service to Assamese journalism and paid tributes to his contributions.
His mortal remains will be brought to his residence in Guwahati, and the last rites are scheduled for April 23, 2026, according to the family. Several media organisations and journalist associations have expressed grief and shared condolences on his passing.
