The Meghalaya government on Tuesday launched “CM-INSPIRE,” a financial assistance scheme aimed at increasing the state’s representation in the Indian civil services by providing cash incentives to UPSC aspirants who clear key stages of the examination. Candidates who qualify the Civil Services Preliminary Examination will receive Rs 50,000, while those who clear the Mains will be awarded Rs 1 lakh, officials said.

Announcing the scheme, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the move is designed to reverse a long-term decline in the number of candidates from Meghalaya entering the civil services. “My dear young aspirants of Meghalaya, today marks an important step in supporting the dreams of our youth. For many years, our representation in the civil services has declined. Today, we take a decisive step to change that with the launch of CM-INSPIRE,” he said.

Sangma added that the scheme seeks to ease the financial burden on aspirants so that deserving candidates are not held back by economic constraints. “The government stands firmly with you on this journey. Believe in yourselves and stay committed to your goals,” he said.

Officials said eligible candidates can apply for the assistance through the portal of the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI). The government did not specify deadlines or further eligibility criteria in the announcement; applicants are directed to the MATI portal for application procedures and details.

The Civil Services Examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), comprises a Preliminary (objective) stage followed by a Mains (written) stage and an interview. By offering targeted monetary support at the Prelims and Mains stages, the state government aims to lower financial barriers and encourage more students from Meghalaya to compete for administrative posts.
