NCB-BSF-Tripura Police Seize Rs 33.62L & 51kg Ganja; One Arrested
Officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police carried out a nearly nine-hour raid on a residence in the Trish Card area of Sepahijala district, recovering Rs 33.62 lakh in cash and 51 kg 125 grams of dried ganja. The operation began at about 4:00 PM on April 10 and continued until roughly 1:00 AM on April 11, police sources said.
Around 235 security personnel took part in the coordinated action, with senior NCB and BSF officials overseeing the operation, according to authorities. Teams systematically searched the house, forcing open doors, cupboards and other storage spaces in a prolonged sweep of the premises.
The residence is reported to belong to Chinta Haran Nama. Most occupants fled as forces entered; only a daughter-in-law remained and was initially detained for questioning while searches were completed. Investigators located Rs 33.62 lakh hidden inside a cupboard and found the dried marijuana stored in a separate room.
On the morning of April 11, senior NCB and BSF officers visited the local police station where the seized cash was counted and formally recorded. Chinta Haran Nama, who had left the scene during the raid, subsequently surrendered to authorities, officials said.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the contraband allegedly belonged to Nama’s elder son, identified as Prasenjit Nama. The NCB has registered a case and handed the matter over to the Madhupur Police Station for further legal action and investigation.
Officials said the operation highlights continued collaboration between central and state agencies to curb narcotics trafficking in the region. Further investigation is underway to determine any wider network or links connected to the seizure.
