Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala entered the mandatory silence period on April 8, 2026, ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled for April 9, with candidates and party workers mounting last-ditch door-to-door visits and relying on personal contacts to reach voters.
After nearly a month of campaigning, some 2.71 crore voters are set to decide the fate of 883 candidates contesting for the state’s 140-member Assembly on April 9, 2026.
High-decibel public campaigning formally ended on April 7, 2026, shifting the focus to quieter, direct voter engagement as candidates try to consolidate support across different sections of their constituencies.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed in sensitive constituencies to avert any untoward incidents, and distribution of polling materials has been carried out across the state from Wednesday morning (April 8, 2026). The Election Commission has made clear that campaigning through public meetings, rallies, media interactions and election-related interviews is strictly prohibited during the silence period to ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders.
