April 9 Paid Holiday in Chumoukedima for Assam Voters: What to Know
Dimapur: Chumoukedima Deputy Commissioner Polan John has declared April 9, the scheduled polling day for the Assam Assembly election, a paid holiday in Chumoukedima district to enable eligible voters to cast their ballots. The order specifies that the holiday applies to all persons who are registered voters in Assam assembly constituencies but are employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, establishment or shop within Nagaland.
The directive explicitly covers workers on shift duty, as well as those employed on a daily-wage or casual basis, the DC said in the official order. Employers have been instructed to implement the holiday so that voters can participate in the democratic process without losing pay.
The notification also makes a limited exception: the paid-holiday provision will not apply to electors whose absence from duty would create danger or cause substantial loss in the course of their employment. The order was issued under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as a measure to facilitate eligible voters in exercising their franchise.
