AJP candidate from the Guwahati Central constituency, Kunki Chowdhury, filed an FIR at the city’s Cyber Police Station on Saturday, alleging that an AI‑generated video featuring her has been circulated widely on social media. In her complaint, Chowdhury said the clip — shared from multiple unidentified accounts — is a deliberate attempt to malign her reputation and disrupt her campaign, and that it has also drawn her mother, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, into controversy.
The complaint describes the video as AI‑generated and says it has been propagated across platforms through several anonymous accounts, raising concerns about misinformation and the use of synthetic media to influence public perception. Chowdhury told reporters the matter is politically motivated and intended to damage both her public standing and electoral prospects.
Chowdhury specifically accused a few individuals of circulating false allegations, naming Balen Baishya, Biswajit Barman and Abhigyan Dihingiya, whom she said work with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha media cell in Dhemaji. “A few individuals … are circulating false allegations about me and my family, and I do not understand why they have stooped so low,” she said.
Cyber police station OC Chandan Das confirmed to TOI that a case has been registered following the complaint. The FIR comes days after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly targeted Chowdhury’s mother over an alleged social‑media post about beef consumption, accusing her of expressing support for “anti‑national” elements.
