ULFA-I Militant Surrenders in Arunachal’s Tirap — Security Win
A militant of the banned outfit ULFA-I surrendered to security forces in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, officials said on April 4, after laying down arms at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Khonsa on April 3. The surrendered cadre was identified as 23-year-old Jintu Gogoi, also known as Arun Asom, a resident of Hachara village under Singhadawar police station in Sivasagar district, Assam.
Gogoi surrendered in the presence of personnel from the local police, the Assam Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). During the handover he turned over a 7.65 mm Italian-made pistol, one magazine and 10 rounds of live ammunition to the security forces.
Officials described the surrender as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to encourage militants to renounce violence and reintegrate into the mainstream. They said further investigation into Gogoi’s activities and associations is underway.
The security forces said the incident would be followed up with verification procedures and legal formalities as the probe continues.
