Manipur Police and security forces arrested four members of valley-based insurgent groups (VBIG) during an operation on April 2 at Yangoubung village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, officials said. The move was described as part of an intensified crackdown aimed at preventing further violence and restoring normalcy in vulnerable fringe areas.

The arrested have been identified as Keisham Sumanta Meitei (25), reportedly linked to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA); Angom Somorjit Singh alias Nongsaba (32), alleged to be associated with the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM); Yumnam Naoba Singh alias Shinsangamba (26) of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Faction) — KCP (MFL); and Khundrakpam Shyamson Meitei alias Manganleiba (25), also named as a KCP (MFL) cadre. The PLA is the well-known armed outfit often referred to as the People’s Liberation Army of Manipur. Officials said security forces have stepped up search operations and area-domination patrols across multiple districts, focusing on fringe and vulnerable zones to forestall any untoward incidents. As part of these measures, 117 nakas — temporary road checkpoints — were established across both hill and valley districts; authorities reported no detentions during these checks.

To ensure the uninterrupted supply of essentials, security arrangements escorted convoys along National Highway-37. A total of 276 vehicles were allowed to pass under tight protection, with additional escorts deployed in sensitive stretches to safeguard logistics and civilian movement.

Security officials characterised the operations as coordinated efforts to stabilise the situation and maintain law and order in the state, while continuing intelligence-led actions against insurgent networks.
